Event ambassadors swap desks for the green

For the fourth consecutive year, a team of Meridian volunteers swapped their desks for the great outdoors and a day of fundraising in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice which has its headquarters in Wythall.
Vanessa Godwin, Debbie Inwood, Emma Louise Green, Beth Docherty, Kelly Chan, Emma Mason, Thomas Norris, Catherine Gritt and Cathy Moore were on hand throughout the day recently to ensure the smooth running of events and to keep the golfers fed and watered. Once again, Mark Abrol, Mark Terrar and Ed Bull flew the flag for Meridian on the greens, each giving up their time to captain a team.
Hosted at Olton Golf Club, the Any Excuse for Golf Society’s (AEFGS) charity event, sponsored by Meridian, brought together several local businesses and avid golfers.
Organised by Mark Abrol, Partner from our Disputes team and Founder of the Any Excuse for Golf Society (AEFGS), together with golf pro, Ady Wheatcroft, the event saw 21 teams raise £26,526.77 on the day through team entry fees, the purchase of snacks and refreshments and an auction of prizes and sporting memorabilia.
Meridian’s fellow sponsors included Henwood Court Financial Planning Limited, No5 Barristers’ Chambers, Morgan & Co Solicitors, Richard Arney and Probate Solicitors (PSL) and on the course golfers enjoyed craft whisky, gin and rum supplied by Staffordshire’s Mercia Distillery, and draft beer from Mark Gregory at Silhill Brewery.
All of the players tried their hand at replicating some challenging pro-golf tricks from Ady Wheatcroft and players also had their swing assessed live on the course by Trackman from Clubs Away.
Mark said, “Once again the day was an enormous success – boosted by such a great group of players, supporters and helpers. A big thank you to Meridian’s event ambassadors and also to Richard and Nia Arney (PSL Solicitors), Yvonne Till and Lee Oliver of Henwood Court Financial Planning and Rhys Williams. Thank you also to Nick Browning Photography for capturing the day’s events so wonderfully, and to the team at Legal Growth for their video footage.
We were pleased that Mark Hopton, chair of Trustees and representing Acorns Children’s Hospice, was able to join us to tell the group more about the type of work the hospice does to provide specialist palliative nursing care and support to babies, children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening conditions. We are pleased to be able to support their efforts in any way we can, and especially through community efforts such as these.”
