Meridian Private Client LLP is a firm of solicitors and tax specialists based in the West Midlands and looks forward to celebrating its fifteen years’ anniversary in 2020.

Meridian helps individuals to protect their family wealth through tax and estate planning. Through building long-term relationships with its clients and their families, Meridian helps them to make some of their biggest financial decisions. Meridian’s clients include business owners and executives, landowners, high net worth individuals, beneficiaries and trustees, the executors of estates and other professionals seeking specialist advice.

Meridian has grown substantially in recent years, with seven legal and tax professionals joining the firm in the last twelve months, bringing the total number of staff members to 32. During 2019, driven by the increasing demand for sophisticated private client legal and tax services, Meridian also appointed three new partners: Mark Terrar, Peter Gate and Vicki Bennett.

Estate planning is at the core of Meridian’s service to clients. Peter and Vicki both specialise in complex trust and estate planning, often with cross-border considerations. The tax team also has a distinct specialism in dealing with international tax issues, including advising individuals on residence and domicile considerations.

Mark, who joined the firm in May 2018, advises on contentious private client matters, including disputes involving wills and trusts. This is a growing area of law, driven by a number of social factors leading to a rise in testamentary capacity concerns and contested wills. Meridian’s contentious team, boasting more than 40 years of litigation experience, is well placed to offer specialist advice.

It is this unique breadth and depth of experience which sets Meridian apart from other private client teams. Meridian’s partner-led service brings together the expertise of a range of specialists from within the firm in one seamless offering. Jon Croxford, partner, commented: “We were recently asked to advise an individual on his tax and legal affairs shortly before the sale of his company and subsequent emigration, requiring our tax and legal specialists to work at speed to resolve a considerable number of UK and cross-border issues and prepare appropriate documents for the family and associated trusts. There are very few firms which could have provided this all-round advice under one roof and it was a great example of how our combined specialisms can be used to assist clients in such a short timeframe.”
